Write out the names of your characters and explain
1) how you thought of their name
2) what made you create the character in the first place
3) how the character has changed over time (if they have changed)
4) any random fun fact about that character
Ixion Elschilde
1) Ixion Project initially had all sorts of odd numerology associated with it, wherein the protagonists' names had to do with the number 9 (I forgot why), two-faced characters had to do with the number 2, and so on. That's mostly gone, since the characters' roles kept changing as the story developed and trying to fit characters into certain molds seemed like a stupid thing to do. But I chose "Ixion" for the "IX," and other characters, like Jyo and Tuva, still bear hints of the numerology in their names, too. "Elschilde" means "god-child" or something in different languages. It doesn't refer specifically to Ixion but to his whole Family.
2) HA HA HA, Ixion Project was originally semi-autobiographical and spawned from the question, "If we were stereotypical characters in a manga, what would we be?" My friends decided I would be the dumb but idealistic hero, and that was what Ixion was created to be. But the story is not semi-autobiographical anymore.
3) Ixion has lost most of his idealism and slow-wittedness. Now, there are fewer opportunities for him to be heroic, and his main goal now is just to discover who he is. He was a blue-haired raver at first, but now his appearance changes throughout the story, and he only has the blue hair for a chapter or so. His bizarre split personality also did not appear until long after I had created him.
4) Although I didn't name Ixion for the Greek myth, the myth did influence the story enough that knowing it will provide lots of hints about where it's going (or where it has been). :] It is not, however, an adaptation of any kind. (Dia's name, on the other hand, does come directly from the myth.)
Tuva de la Vega
1) Tuva writes her name as "2va," which, if the numerology thing still applied, might be a hint about her two-faced nature. "De la Vega" means "of the meadow" in Spanish, I think, but I chose it because I had just watched The Mask of Zorro and liked the sound of it.
2) She was created to be Ixion's first friend after losing his memory, and she was created to betray him.
3) She got weirder. I didn't know she'd be that weird until I actually wrote her, holy shit.
4) Tuva's hair does not translate well to prose. I left out the long sections entirely.
Vistiel
1) As the lawman of the story, Vistiel's role is as the "angel of judgment," so to speak. I wanted his name to have an angelic sound.
2) The story needed an antagonist, and the fugitive needed someone to chase him.
3) Vistiel's a more serious and empathetic character than I had planned. He has also become Ixion's cousin by marriage.
4) I want to draw him, but I have no idea what he wears. I'm just not a very visual person. :[
